European Technology Platform for Global Animal Health – ETPGAH
With the increase in international trade, the movement of people and possibly climate change influences, new diseases are arriving in Europe. Outbreaks of major animal diseases such as Foot and Mouth disease, Classical Swine Fever, Avian Influenza, Bluetongue and West Nile Fever can have a devastating impact on animal and human health, food safety, rural communities, the environment and the wider economy.
In Europe more than 50,000 full time jobs depend on the animal health industry, with 15,000 directly involved in R&D, production, marketing, sales and administration. Total European sales in 2010 were 4,300 million euros, comprising 33.3% of worldwide sales.
