The aim of this section is to give an idea about CROMATICA objectives, to understand the scope of the applications undertaken.
Currently, 75% of travel in the European countries is done by car. The consequences are the well know traffic problems in urban areas but also the degradation of quality of life and of the environment. One solution is a substantial shift in daily patterns of travel from private means to public transport systems. To make the latter more attractive, significant improvements must be achieved in transport intermodality and in the quality of means and management of public passenger transport. CROMATICA will focus on the second topic by dealing with both the capacity to move people and the quality of service. To improve the capacity to move people, we need to get a better understanding about crowd behaviour and detect quickly situations that might lead to incidents. To improve the quality of service we will need to find ways to decrease journey-times and risk in travel by public transport.
