SAMPLUS follows on from the EC funded SAMPO (Systems for the Advanced Man-agement of Public Transport Operations) project 1996-1997. The 19 month SAMPLUS Project started in March 1998. Deliverable D8.1 "Guidelines for Implementation of a SAMPLUS system: Standards to Adopt and Results to Expect" has been developed to provide suggestions for those who wish to plan, develop and implement Demand Re-sponsive Transport (DRT) service concepts. D8.1 takes into account not only issues related to the development and use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for technical support and management, but also the host environment related to DRT. This has been crucial since the experiences of SAMPLUS have shown that the development of telem-atics tools and applications cannot be separated from the political, juridical, institu-tional and organisational issues and frameworks.
