SIAMS [1] fundamental subsystems are: the network, the satellite communications system,
the system services and the Geographical Information Subsystem. Their critical role in the
system realization and demonstration is defined in the Technical Annex [1], justifying the
reason for being the basis of the workplan. All of them comprise of different physical and
logical components of hardware and software that are to work together in a way to achieve
technical sustainability in terms of management, control and performance. Moreover, to
compose a complex design and facilitate integration at the latest stages of the implementation
process, modularity and clear definition of parts, relations, communication and interfacing
between the various parts is essential to be achieved.
