Objectives of research
Main objectives:
The CARISMA Transport concerted action is aimed at supporting consensus-formation on a number of transport issues related to the interface and interconnection between long distance transport networks - in particular the Trans-European Networks- and local/regional transport networks of all modes. Ultimately, the project is to establish a more systematic information flow between European, national and local/regional policy-makers on issues related to the interconnection of transport networks of different scales and modes, addressing institutional, legal, design, planning, technical and deployment aspects. The specific objectives of the project are: - to identify the state of the art of interconnectivity between transport networks by analysing current research results and “pre-deployment” activities in the field, in particular to present progress already made with regard to the interconnection of transport networks; - to assess current practices, establish best practice and explore key issues which have not yet been adequately addressed; - to facilitate consensus-formation among policy-makers at European, national and local levels and propose future requirements and actions to be taken; - to disseminate project results to a broad range of actors in the transport field, specifically policy-makers and transport operators at levels.

Relevant DGVII transport research projects and other RTD and “pre-deployment” activities at EU level, Trans-European Networks policy actions CARISMA Transport will be managed in close cooperation with the DGXIII project, CARISMA Telematics, of the Telematics Applications Programme-Transport.
