Objectives of research

Main objectives:

Objectives of the project 1. Analysis of environmental situation in ports To overview the impact of environmental issues in European ports and the way how each individual port is currently tackling environmental matters, this project is aiming at the collection and analysis of information, concerning environmental issues, related activities, priorities and the cost-effective solutions applied in European ports. An overview of less developed areas will also be derived (solutions needed/possible projects). The specific relation between port authorities and cities and the port industry is addressed in a special workpackage. Main goal is to come to a guideline, how to interact with city authorities and industrial companies in the port. 2. Development of tools To be able to collect and analyze data in a unified way, several tools will be developed in the project. These tools will be customized for individual use in ports ("self-diagnosis method" + communication strategy) 3. Directives for implementation These tools can be used widely by individual ports, to regularly assess the environmental situation and to be able to set priorities. A unified approach "how to use the tools" is developed and should lead to application of cost-effective techniques and measures (fair competition) and realistic environmental policies, regulations and standards.

Demo Sites:

The developed tools will be tested in 10 European ports (prime partners in project + observer ports) The final results will be available for the ESPO General Assembly (coverage of 300 EU ports
