Objectives of research
Main objectives:
The main objective of MASIS II series of four packages can be stated as follows: To improve human behaviour on board ships with special attention to emergency situations, by providing practical tools and solutions which can be readily implemented in order to enhanceon-board and on-shore management and improve the working condition of shipboard personnel. This would involve devising appropriate tools and procedures for effective man/machine interface so as to reduce the impact of human element in marine incidents. These objectives will include also the proper ISM code manual as well as the new STCW impact evaluation and will be pursued through the development of several co-ordinate and linked work task, which comply with the terms of reference of the EU work programme. Further objectives are: a) Assess the remedial measures for enhanced efficiency and safety in emergency situations; b) Define the specific operational requirements for multi-cultural crews c) Develop new employment/organisational models to enhance the attractiveness of working at sea d) Introduce new concepts of management structures for shipowners and ship operators e) Identify ship design requirements under ergonomic aspects for a reduction of operator workload and increase his comfort and alertness. f) Give imput to new educational and training programmes.
