Objectives of research
Main objectives:
1- Identify optimal urban transport and land use strategies for a range of urban areas within the EU 2- Compare the strategies which are specified as optimal in different cities and assess the reasons for these differences 3- Assess the acceptability and feasability of implementation of these strategies both in the case study cities (Edinburgh, Merseyside, Wien, Eisenstadt, Helsinki, Torino, Salerno, Oslo and Tromso) and more widely in the EU 4- Provide guidelines on urban transport policy within the EU
Secondary objective:
5- Specify a standard set of objective functions for both economic efficiency and sustainability 6- Identify an acceptable set of transport and land use policy instruments 7- Test combinations of policy measures using existing urban transport models 8- Identify optimal strategies in each case study city in terms of economic efficiency and sustainability 9- Draw policy conclusions for each case study city
