Objectives of research
Main objectives:
The principal goal of the PRORATA project is to study and to propose measures to increase the competitiveness of railways in inter-regional international traffic, with focus on long-distance passenger traffic. The scope of the work includes high speed trains, conventional inter-regional passenger trains and night trains. The overall workplan consists of 8 Workpackages. The detailed objectives cover: - Definition of user requirements for services and products; indicating market research - Analysis of existing marketing products from rail and other modes - Identification of key cost drivers - Design of benchmarking system, utilising comparative efficiency measures - Analysis of the adaptability of rail - Design of a business process re-engineering strategy, comprising the project results

Links with other projects, tasks, areas, programmes, policy actions: PRORATA has links with LIBERAIL and SONERAIL. LIBERAIL, in particular, identifying common ground between passenger and freight sectors. SONERAIL, in order that elements of methodology may be shared. Other areas of 4th FPRD of relevance, concern scenarios: ATT and interoperability.
