Objectives of research
Main objectives:
- Identification of main parameters affecting freight cost structure in EU members States plus Switzerland and some CEEC Countries and of the factors affecting freight transport demand. - Collection and comparison of some relevant examples of freight costs by country. - A map covering various types of industries, illustrating the weight of transport costs as proportion of overall production and distribution costs, as well as the condition of their preference towards each transport mode (or combination of modes). - Development and validation of a “four stage” methodology for the appraisal of costs, suitable for the analysis of the present distortions in Europe and suitable to different policies for taxation and internalisation of costs on spatial production organisation. - Analysis of the consequences of different polices for taxation and internalisation of costs on spatial production organisation. - Definition of an optimal country related time path for the implementation of harmonisation policies. - Preparation of contribution to dissemination of results obtained.
