Objectives of research
Main objectives:
The main objective of the WORKPORT project is to identify the impact of new technologies in ports, in the port’s work environment and also to consider the application of new organisation and management concepts to meet new demands for ports.
Secondary objective:
To contribute to the integration and efficiency of waterborne transport, in particular considering the effective application of new technologies in ports. To identify the main impacts of new technologies on the human factor, on safety at work, on social environment, on qualification, education and training demands. To identify the main trends in technology and management development at an international level. To investigate if and how lessons learned from other industrial sectors could be applied in the ports working environment. To assess how R&D results (and especially those of the 4th F.P.) might influence the ports’ organisation and management, promote the integration of ports into the intermodal transport chain and increase their efficiency and competitiveness. To consider redesign of jobs in ports with implications on qualification demand, working structures, hierarchies, organisational arrangements and responsibilities.
