The European Commission's Environment DG has announced a call for tenders for a study on organised crime in the sphere of the environment. The aim of the study, which is to cover the 15 Member States of the EU, is to provide the Commission with factual and legal information on organised environmental crime, and to assist in generating proposals for initiatives to counter this form of criminal activity. The contractor must provide: - numerical evaluations of organised environmental criminal activity, particularly in respect of: 1) illegal commercial trade in endangered species 2) illegal pollution and the transfer and storage of dangerous wastes across borders 3) illegal commercial trade in ozone depleting substances 4) illegal transfer and storage of radioactive waste; - information on the national and international legal instruments which exist to control organised environmental crime; - information on the national and international structures which exist to control organised environmental crime - clear and concrete proposals which could be adopted by the EU for the effective control of organised environmental crime.For further information, please contact: European Commission Directorate-General Environment Attn: Mrs Gail Kent rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-299 4449 For administrative and financial matters, Tel: +32-2-296 0008 For technical matters, Tel: +32-2-2961042
