The annual report for 1992 of the Central Bureau for Nuclear Measurements (CBNM) of the Joint Research Centre covers CBNM's activities during the first year of the multiannual programme 1992-1994. Areas of activity include: -The specific programme (measurements and testing); - Support to Commission services; - Exploratory research; - Work for third parties. Work described in the report, and the results presented, reflect the Institute's reorientation towards an emphasis on reference materials and increased contributions to non-nuclear tasks. The project "Reference Materials" contributed to both the nuclear and non-nuclear fields, while "Nuclear Measurements" furnished data for standards, fission and fusion technologies and made contributions to nuclear metrology. Work on nuclear targets was successful as a large number of items were prepared under the form of thin deposits, special films and bulk samples. Reactor neutron dosimetry reference materials were delivered to customers in various countries. In the field of non-nuclear reference materials, the support to the BCR was intensified by providing storage and dispatching of a high number of samples. Special reference materials of biological and environmental relevance were prepared, tested or characterized. Sections of the report also describe work undertaken with the Institute's linear electron accelerator (GELINA), the construction of the Ultra-Clean Chemical Laboratory, and radiation physics experiments. A chapter on scientific support to the Commission is included, and an outline of work for third parties. Scientific and technical articles and special publications produced by the CBNM are listed.
