Manufacturing Visions - Integrating Diverse Perspectives into Pan-European Foresight

Objective

An informed view of the possible futures for manufacturing industries is essential as input for policy-making and industrial strategies while aiming at the Lisbon goals. In order to reach these objectives, multiple actors have to discuss their visions, val ues and expectations on the future of manufacturing establishing a knowledge community on trends, visions and alternatives in manufacturing, product and service engineering. As a tool, a pan-European Delphi expert survey will be launched in 22 states (EU-M S, ACC, EUREKA). It will cover developments in all relevant aspects of manufacturing, from technologies via organisational concerns to questions of the working environment and sustainability. Enabling technologies for developments in all these areas will b e identified. Arising demands on skills and competencies will also be derived from the results. In addition, a group of international experts from all continents will be involved in the statement generation. Another activity collects the views of users, co nsumers and other societal groups concerned with manufacturing. Scientists from eight European research institutes, all of them well experienced in foresight and national partners from another 14 European countries will ensure the results. These will be co nsolidated in a web-based database, comprising the views of approx. 3,000 experts and allowing national subsamples. The reports will provide policy recommendations for the Commission (mid-term reviews, Manufacturing Action Plan) and at national or EUREKA l evel.
