EURODELPHES, a project for the development of a telematics-based history manual, has just been launched in the framework of the joint call for proposals of the Commission's Educational Multimedia Task Force. The project will receive an EU contribution of ECU 2.2 million to an overall budget of ECU 4.2 million, and involves participants from France, Germany and Italy.

The objectives of EURODELPHES are to design, develop and evaluate an innovative hypermedia pedagogical environment for teaching and learning history in European secondary schools on the basis of digitized audiovisual archives. The anticipated results will focus on trans-European synergies between educational bodies, publishers, broadcasters, archive providers and technological partners. This is in order to:

- Promote the deployment of electronic networks and services for education and to explore new pedagogical practices integrating the use of information technologies;
- Contribute to the emergence of a European identity while respecting cultural and linguistic diversity;
- Validate integration and development of complementary applications for full deployment of hypermedia services in the education sector and to encourage replication in other fields.
