The Institute for Systems, Informatics and Safety of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, has recently published the proceedings of the second international conference on "Sensitivity analysis of model output" (SAMO'98), held in Venice, Italy, in April 1998.

Sensitivity analysis is the process which aims to understand how a model (numerical or otherwise) behaves in response to changes in its input. This will help to ensure more correct usage of models, given the fundamental importance of understanding the relationship between model input factors and model output. It is an area of growing importance in all settings and fields where modelling applies.

The publication contains over 80 abstracts of each presentation and poster given at the conference, by over 150 scientists from all over the world. These abstracts present the reader with a range of different methodologies for sensitivity analysis, developed by scientists from a wide spectrum of disciplines. A full list of references is also provided in each abstract.
