Information services on the information technologies industries

The European Commission, DG III, has published an invitation to tender concerning the supply of information services on the information technologies industries.

The Commission is planning to subscribe to an information service for the information technologies industries. The sub-sectors to be covered are consumer electronics, software, telecommunications terminal equipment, computers and office equipment, professional equipment and the components utilized by these industries.

With the rapid development of the information technologies industries, the Commission needs to have access to sources of information on the changes and progress of these industries. Such data and information will need to be constantly updated, continuously available and accurately reflect the evolution of the sector. The information service will include:

- (a) Continuous access to a regularly updated database providing global and regional data for the various electronic equipment markets. This will include data on investment, production, employment and consumption level, individual company performance and strategy, industry trends, market developments and technology issues;
- (b) A press clipping service covering useful articles with more general information about the six sub-sectors from the most important European, American and Japanese newspapers and weeklies;
- (c) An inquiry support service with the possibility of requesting reports on specific topics;
- (d) One presentation each year per sub-sector on key issues (to be determined by the Commission) by the service provider for EU staff.

The contract will be divided into six lots:
- I. Consumer electronics;
- II. Software;
- III. Telecommunications terminal equipment;
- IV. Computers and office equipment;
- V. Professional equipment;
- VI. Components.

Tenderers may tender for one or more lots. A separate tender should be submitted for each lot. The contract will run for one year, and may be renewed twice for a further period of one year.
