The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender for a study on the economic and environmental implications of a potential European Union-wide charge on the content of cadmium in mineral fertilizers. The study should also evaluate the possibility and effects of an EU-wide framework for charges, within which each Member State could set its own rate. The study should be completed within ten months, with an interim report available after five months.
