A report summarizing the proceedings of the second metadata workshop, organised by the European Commission's Electronic Publishing and Libraries Division is now available. The workshop, held in Luxembourg on 26 June 1998, aimed to coordinate metadata projects, raise awareness within the wider European community of developments in the standards arena, and stimulate feedback from projects to standards development. Participation was limited to forty project coordinators from ten countries, bringing together the key players from EU projects concerned with the creation of metadata for electronic publications, Web resources and other forms of electronic archives. The workshop looked at the initial results of some of the projects and discussed how planned projects could be integrated better. Topics considered during the workshop included: - The Nordic metadata project which has developed tools for adding metadata to Web projects; - The ARIADNE project for the development of reusable education material; - Problems with creating multilingual metadata; - Developments in the Dublin core scheme for recording and interchanging data.
