The European senior service network (ESSN) was established to enable owners and managers of SMEs and larger companies in the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union (NIS) and Mongolia to access the knowledge and expertise of retired EU managers and professionals. In order to implement this programme the Commission is currently seeking expressions of interest from suitable qualified individuals. The main task of the programme is to strengthen the performance of recently privatised enterprises or those planning to do so by providing technical assistance in the process of transition to a market economy. Senior experts' organisations from every EU Member State of the EU participate in the ESSN programme, with 30,000 experts available to TACIS partner countries. The programme involves visits to the enterprises in the NIS and Mongolia, workshops for local SMEs and the staff training, follow-up missions and the possibility of a work or a training programme in Europe is also envisaged. The provision of services from European experts is done on a voluntary basis. Applications should be made in respect of particular projects, on which details may be obtained from the Commission, either on the World Wide Web, or at the addresses below.
