A new World Wide Web homepage dedicated to the EU's SYNERGY programme for international cooperation in the energy sector has recently been launched on CORDIS. The SYNERGY programme is managed by DG XVII of the European Commission and aims to improve the competitiveness of Community industries, enhance the security of energy supply, promote sustainable development and improve energy efficiency. The information on the new site includes details of the aims of the programme, its budget, actions supported, examples of projects financed and the operation of the programme. A section is devoted to a review of SYNERGY activities between 1994 and 1996, providing a summary of the activities which took place in the various cooperation regions under the programme. The different regions targeted by the programme are Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Latin America, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean and other multi-regional projects. In addition, contact details for the programme's management in the Commission, as well as the SYNERGY committee members in all the EU Member States are provided. A further section on calls for tender provides information on the opportunities for co-financed projects within the scope of the SYNERGY programme for 1999.
