A summary report is now available on the final results of the call for proposals for pilot or exploratory projects aimed at contributing to the enhancement of the current multimedia intellectual property rights trading environment in the EU. The call was launched in December 1997 under the EU's INFO2000 programme for multimedia content and closed in April 1998. The work to be carried out comes within Action Line 3.2 of the INFO2000 work programme, the objective of which is to contribute to the enhancement of the current multimedia rights trading environment in the EU by increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of multimedia clearance processes between rightholders and multimedia product developers. A total of 26 proposals were received under this call, of which 24 were eligible and 10 have been short-listed by the evaluation panels. Examples of the projects selected include: - VERDI on very extensive rights data information; - INDECS on the interoperability of data in electronic commerce systems; - PRISAM on producer rights information systems for audiovisual and multimedia; - ORS on an open rights system; - COMPASS on copyright for multimedia public and support system. The report gives information on the background to, and the scope of, the call for proposals, as well as details of all the projects shortlisted. Statistics are available on the representation of organisations and the distribution of funding across the Member States. Details of the evaluation procedure and criteria used to assess the call for proposals are also documented. A summary giving an overall assessment of the evaluation and recommendations for future EU initiatives in the field are also provided in separate sections at the end of the report.
