Call for proposals in the field of environmental protection

The European Commission, DG XI, has published a call for proposals in the field of environmental protection, the aim of which is to identify projects which might be eligible for financial support. DG XI are planning to assist between 200 and 300 projects during 1999, allocating a total of some ECU 10 million.

The proposals should cover the following areas of activity (new fields may be added until 15 December 1998):

- Information, awareness raising and education:

. Information on Community environmental law;
. Radiation protection - from legislation to practice;
. Accidental marine pollution;
. Sustainable consumption;
. Media and audiovisual sector;
. Information actions in the field of air quality and urban policy;
. Networks in the field of air quality and urban policy;

- Environmental impact assessment, environmental indicators and economic analysis:

. Economic analysis and environmental protection;
. Environmental impact assessment (EIA);
. Strategic environmental assessment (SEA);
. Indicators and green national accounting;

- Environmental protection:

. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES);
. Nature protection;

- Industry and environment:

. Eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS);
. Genetically modified (micro) organisms;
. Awareness raising in the field of chemicals and their risks;
. Control of dangerous substances;
. Chemical products and pesticides in developing countries;
. Protection of animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes;
. Biocidal products;
. Waste management;

- International activities:

. Climate change;
. Partnership with international organisations;
. Enlargement.

Information provided includes the objectives to be meet within each project, the types of projects to be implemented, the duration of each contract and the total funding available.
