Several European IT companies have established relationships with new business partners in Asia, thanks to an event organised by the European Commission in Kazakhstan in October.

More than 50 researchers from Europe visited Almaty in Central Asia to take part in the Eurasia Online conference organised by the DENEMA project, a support action of the Telematics Applications Progamme.

The DENEMA project promotes direct collaboration between education, healthcare and business communities in Central Asia and their counterparts in the European Union, using advanced telecommunications technologies and multimedia.

By the end of the conference, several participating institutions had signed Memorandums of Understanding as the basis for future collaboration and the later part of the conference focused on possible future funding opportunities from the European Commission for this kind of collaboration.

People and firms in the education and training sector in Europe were amongst the largest group to travel to Eurasia '98. The Education and Training sessions featured 24 presentation on behalf of the European Commission, UNESCO, Central Asian Governments, and telephone network companies.
