Research institutes looking for partners to cooperate under the Fifth Framework Programme may find interesting potential in South Africa. An overview of South African research organisations that can be contacted is available from the South African Mission in Brussels.

Since the conclusion of the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement in 1996, South African partners can participate freely in European non-nuclear research programmes. They provide their own financing.

For the Fifth Framework Programme South Africa is looking to intensify cooperation. It has expressed special interest in cooperating in the areas of agriculture and fisheries, health and biomedicine, biotechnology and the sustainable management of renewable natural resources.
