The European Commission has adopted a Decision, under Council Directive 92/34/EEC, which calls for comparative trials and tests to be carried out on the propagating and planting material of the fruit plants Ribes spp.

According to the Decision, tests must be carried out on samples to check that the genera or species of propagating material or fruit plants comply with the requirements and conditions of the Directive in each Member State.

Comparative trials will be carried out on the propagating and planting material of Ribes spp. from 1998 to 2000. The trials will initially focus on harmonising the technical methods of examining the propagating and planting material of these species.
