The European Commission, Directorate General XII, has recently published a report entitled "Diffusion mechanisms of silicon (up to 6.5 WT%) deposited from vapour phase of electrical steel sheets". It is one in a series of ten reports on properties and in-service performance in the field of technical steel research.

The publication is the final report on the project, which was undertaken to investigate the feasibility of enriching sheet steels with silicon by combining deposition techniques and annealing processes. The experimental results from this research suggest it is currently not advisable to pursue industrialisation of the silicon enrichment process.
