Industry could obtain reliable information on pollutants from a commercial analyser produced using the results of an EU-funded project on coal-based emissions of environmental concern, the final report of which has been published by the European Commission, Directorate General for Energy, DG XVII.

Companies working in this field are all too aware of the importance of environmental issues for their future profitability. The work described in this report was done as a response to growing concerns about the environment. The researchers hoped to contribute towards developing and demonstrating cheap retrofit control technologies for small combustion plants in Europe.

The project produced results, outlined in the report, which could potentially be used to produce a commercial analyser for use on both coal-fired and combustion units. Such analysers, the report says, could provide industry with reliable information on pollutant emissions: a useful tool when environmental awareness and stringent legislation is on the increase.
