SYNERGY calls for interest in Mediterranean and Black Seas

SYNERGY, the international co-operation component of the European Commission's "Energy Framework Programme", has issued a call for expressions of interest in a call for tender for "A conference on the impact of energy projects on the Black and Mediterranean Seas".

SYNERGY, being implemented between 1998 and 2002, finances international cooperation projects with third countries to help them define, formulate, and implement their energy policy in fields of mutual interest. It also finances projects promoting industrial co-operation between the European Union (EU) and third countries in the energy sector. To be eligible, projects must contribute to accomplishing the objectives of EU's energy policy:

- Overall competitiveness;
- Security of supply;
- Promotion of sustainable development;
- Protection of the environment.

In the Balkans, SYNERGY provides assistance for coordination between the countries concerned, the strengthening of relations with the EU, and the creation of a sound basis for the development of energy infrastructure. The Black Sea Regional Energy Centre was created in 1994 to achieve these aims, and a Balkan Task Force was launched in 1996 to ensure efficiency and coordination regarding energy interconnection investment initiatives.

One of the actions supported by the programme is closer dialogue and exchanges of information on energy policy, particularly through conferences and seminars.

The proposal form for this call, which relates to such an event, is now available from the CORDIS document library at:

The Commission services will draw up a shortlist of the companies which express interest in the call and will send them a tender dossier for drawing-up a bid.
