Commission evaluates authorization of medicinal products

An open invitation to tender for a study on the evaluation of the operation of Community procedures regarding the authorization of medicinal products has been published in the Official Journal.

The European Commission, Directorate-General III for Industry, calls for a study, which has two specific aims - general and specific. Concerning the general aims, the Commission advises proposers to check first of all whether the main aims at the outset of the setting up of the new procedures were achieved and to what extend additional efforts must be carried out.

Under the specific aims, the Commission calls for a detailed functional evaluation (audit) of the following elements:

- Centralized authorization procedure for medicinal products;
- Decentralized authorization procedure for medicinal products;
- European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products;
- Telematic data-transfer systems among competent national authorities, the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products and the European Commission.

The proposal has to be drawn up in one of the official European Union languages.
