The contained use of genetically modified micro-organisms (GMOs) should be safer, following a Corrigendum to Council Directive (98/81/EC) of 26 October 1998, amending Directive 90/219/EEC, which has recently been published in the Official Journal. The Corrigendum applies to page 14, Article 1, point 1 of the Directive. The final words of Article 2(c) should read as follows: " . . . to limit their contact with, and to provide a high level of safety for, the general population and the environment;". Further changes have also been made on page 24, Table IA under "System of work". Please see the text of Corrigendum for this amendment.
