Germany leads in high-tech employment

Germany employs more people in the European Union's (EU) high-technology sector than any other Member State, according to a EUROSTAT report. The country employs 27.5 percent of this sixteen million strong workforce and is followed by the United Kingdom (19.9%), France (15.1%) and Italy (11.7%).

The statistics also identify the top fifteen regions that employ more people in the high-tech sector than anywhere else in the EU. Again, Germany has a clear lead, with ten of these regions falling within its borders. Of the rest, two of the top fifteen regions are in France, and the others in Italy, Sweden and the UK.

Stuttgart, in Germany, employs proportionally more high-tech workers than anywhere else in the EU, with 23.3 percent of its workforce employed in high-tech manufacturing and services.
