The 30 most promising European start-ups in Big Data have been selected, as a result of the 1st open call of the European Data Incubator (EDI).
From Istanbul to Copenhagen, meet the 30 brightest “Big Data” start-ups in Europe
The project, coordinated by the University of Deusto, is an incubation programme run by 20 partners across Europe, that will offer around 100 start-ups the chance to tackle real-world challenges set by major European corporates like Volkswagen Navarra, RACC motoring club or SONAE. Improving road safety in Barcelona or predicting fraudulent transactions in supermarkets are examples of the challenges that these start-ups will be facing in the coming months.

Benefits of this 3-year project include up to €100k in equity-free funding, mentoring, workshops, access to a free cloud environment, and the chance to connect with and be recognised by major European organisations.

Meet the start-ups

Hailing from 28 cities, 30 young companies have been selected, among the 121 teams that formally applied, to take part in the first stage of the incubation process.

Datathon in Berlin

The EDI incubation process is divided into three progressive phases, in which only the best start-ups pass to the next level: ‘Explore’, ‘Experiment’, ‘Evolve’.

The ‘Explore’ phase will be finalised on 17 and 18 October in an event in Berlin. Here, the 30 selected teams will show their talent as participants in a datathon, where they will practice their pitches and meet face to face with the corporates. A jury of experts in big data and business will decide which 16 start-ups will pass to the next ‘Experiment’ level.
