A chatbot is an AI-powered ICT tool that responds to users in a conversational form through text or voice. It “lives” on a communication programme such as Facebook Messenger or can be embedded into a website. The power of chatbots can also boost the impact of your Research and Innovation projects as part of your dissemination and communication strategy! The Power of Chatbots: Amplify the impact of your R&I projects with chatbots at ICT 2018 in Vienna
Chatbots are becoming increasingly popular, as thousands of organisations are currently developing them for communication, customer support and sales purposes. A chatbot is an AI-powered ICT tool that responds to users in a conversational form through text or voice. It “lives” on a communication programme such as Facebook Messenger or can be embedded into a website as a preferred alternative to searching the internet, trawling websites for information, or reaching out directly to organisations via email or telephone. The power of chatbots can also boost the impact of your Research and Innovation projects!

Some of the benefits of deploying chatbots as part of your outreach strategy for your R&I project are:

Availability : Chatbots never sleep. They can be operational and ready to engage with your defined audiences 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Get to know your audiences : Chatbots are “intelligent” agents and learn from interaction with users. Over time, your chatbot will get to know your audiences and learn to respond in the best way to enquiries. There is also a lot to be learned from most searched and used terms. A chatbot will collect this data for you to optimise your dissemination efforts.

Low maintenance costs : Chatbots allow organisations to save money and are easy to configure to meet different needs (depending on the application used). Once they have been built, the costs of keeping them updated are relatively low.

Time saving : A very common and great example of how chatbots can help projects save time is in relation to how they can help companies by answering their clients’ FAQ. The efficiency of chatbots derives from the ease of interaction they create for project staff or other users. For example, the chatbot Amigo was created for the Komfo Summit in Copenhagen as a virtual event guide.
