EDI development projects

The Commission of the European Communities DG XIII (Directorate-General for Information Technologies and Industries, and Telecommunications) publishes an open invitation to tender in the framework of the Community programme on trade electronic data interchange systems (TEDIS II).

As there remain obstacles to the growth of trade electronic data interchange, the present call for proposals reissues three tasks already addressed in 1992 (Call for proposals published in Official Journal No C 144 of 6.6.1992). Community financial support is available for projects designed to improve the situation in the following fields:

- Migration to UN/EDIFACT: As regards standardization, there is a need to encourage panEuropean user groups to migrate from proprietary standards to UN/EDIFACT.

- Network of awareness centres: In order to raise awareness of the potential benefits of EDI in Europe, coordination of awareness centres and the level of service offered must be increased.

- Multi-sectoral projects: PanEuropean multi-sectoral projects have already made some progress, but the creation of new projects or the continuation of previous initiatives must be encouraged.

Proposals may cover one or more points under one of the specific headings mentioned above. A separate proposal should be made for each point. Selected projects may be given full or partial funding as appropriate. Where funding of 50% or less is requested, all rights to the results of the project will remain the property of the contractors. If partial funding exceeding 50% of costs is requested, results will belong to both the Community and the contractors. If 100% funding is granted, results will be the sole property of the Community.

Projects are to start in September 1993 and are to be completed in mid/late 1994.
