The European Commission, DG XI, has announced that it intends to issue an invitation to tender concerning foot and mouth disease antigens and vaccines later in the year. A prior information notice has been published on the Official Journal for a contract concerning the purchase and storage of inactivated, concentrated antigens of the foot and mouth disease virus and formulation, production, bottling and distribution of vaccines against foot and mouth disease. It is foreseen that 2.5 million euro will be allocated to the contract and the preliminary date given for contract signature is December 1999.
