One of the objectives of the European Commission's funding of research for oil and gas technologies, through the Energy section of the Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development programme(part of the Fifth Framework Programme), is to boost production in a cost-effective manner. Some of the projects that have received money from the EU to help turn this aim into a reality are outlined in the latest edition of 'Oil and Gas Technology', the Commission's newsletter for the industry. It provides information on: - 'Wellcom' a system designed to increase production from low pressure wells; - Innovative production systems for heavy oil; - Floating production systems for deepwater: titanium risers; - Floating production and storage offloading integrity: setting standards for fatigue loading; - An expert system for multiphase metering. Anyone with a particular interest in this field may also be interested in visiting the EU stand at the 'Offshore Europe' exhibition in Aberdeen, Scotland, between 7 and 10 September 1999 (see CORDIS News RCN 12797).
