Data collection for toxicity testing database

The European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) is required by the Commission to set up, maintain and develop a database of alternative methods to animal experiments from scientific literature and related information services.

The Joint Research Centre, of which it is a part, has therefore issued an invitation to tender for a service provider to collect data for this database in the field of in vitro toxicity testing of chemicals and/or formulations.

Currently ECVAM's data collection is focused on in vitro methods developed to predict in vitro toxicity covering the topics of oculotoxicity, dermatotoxicity, and basal cytotoxicity, percutaneous absorption, phototoxicity, metabolism-mediated toxicity, hepatotoxicity and haematoxicity.

The present call is aimed at completing the collection of information for the database on alternative methods by defining the data sheets for all data sectors in the above-mentioned fields of non-animal toxicity testing.

The tasks will be carried out under the supervision of ECVAM's Scientific Information Service (SIS) staff and will make use of an MS Access-based data entry module or equivalent. For every ten complied method data sheets, the whole set of documents for all correlated data sectors must be sent to ECVAM's SIS for control.
