The Commission of the European Communities submitted on 13 November 1990 a proposal (COM(90) 450) for a Council Decision to declare 1992 the "European Year for Safety, Hygiene and Health Protection at Work (1992)", to run from March 1992 to March 1993. Coordinating activities shall be organized by the Community, the Member States, the social partners and by public and private bodies. Actions aim to underline the social and economic importance of safety, hygiene and health at work and to make workers, employers and young people more aware of related risks at the workplace and what can be done about them. To encourage the spread of information a series of actions will be financed entirely from the Community budget while further actions will be cofinanced or undertaken by public or private organizations.
