Appraising the sustainability implications of EC initiatives

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre requires a study to provide a basis for developing a methodology that appraises and monitors the integration of sustainability issues into EC policies and actions.

The methodology will focus on the identification of the main societal concerns that need to be incorporated in current and future initiatives of the EC as well as in the revision of past initiatives.

Existing knowledge at Member State level should be incorporated in the study, together with a detailed review and consultation of the main and relevant stakeholders and organisations.

The study will have to run in parallel with other ongoing studies on economic and environmental issues and thus it should identify links and interactions between the economic, societal and environmental issues.

The final outcome should be in the form of a structured checklist of questions with an attached score system. The results will be integrated into a software tool (not part of this call for tender) to be used by EC officials.
