While others enjoyed their holidays in peaceful climes this summer, 992 independent experts from across Europe spent July diligently evaluating proposals for the Commission's Quality of Life Programme, part of its Fifth RTD Framework Programme. The Commission received 1790 proposals following the deadline for submissions in June. The average project involved 7.9 partners and sought funding of 1.8 million euro - a significantly higher amount than for requests made under the Fourth RTD Framework programme. Industrial participation is also quite high this time around, with about half of projects including at least one company. Notification has now been sent to those groups whose projects have been chosen for selection, with a view to opening contract negotiations. More information on the latest news and activities from the Quality of Life Programme is available from the second issue of the Commission's bulletin for the programme, which is now available from: http://cordis.europa.eu/life/src/newslet.htm
