Continuing its work to improve forest management in Europe, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre is seeking tenders related to the development of methods and tools for monitoring forest diversity as a contribution to sustainable forest management in Europe. This will involve research and development to find tools to identify criteria and indicators for assessing and monitoring forest diversity. The tools will be appropriate for use at different scales, from the level of the forest stand to larger landscape units. Ultimately, the study will contribute towards long-term Commission strategies and the recently prepared EU biodiversity strategy. It will also serve to support other Commission departments - particularly of the Agriculture Directorate-General, the Environment Directorate-General and the Research Directorate-General - and the European Working Group on Research and Biodiversity. For a summary of the work required, please consult the call text in the Official Journal of the European Communities at the reference below.
