The republic of Cyprus has announced its intention to publish a call for tenders during April 2000, seeking technical assistance in the framework of the project' Technical assistance and administrative cooperation, role of the Cyprus Ports and Airports in the Trans-European Network'. The project, which is likely to be funded by the European Community, should examine the desirability and justification for extension of the Trans-European Networks (TENs) to the Eastern Mediterranean and of facilitating connections to the networks of countries in the area. The study will: - Evaluate the potential of the Cyprus ports and airports to serve the EU in the best way possible; - Identify any changes that have to be effected for EU and Cyprus interest; - Estimate the benefits expected for EU and Cyprus from the inclusion of Cyprus ports and airports in the TENs; - Examination of the potential of Cyprus in playing a special role in the coordination development and promotion of peripheral projects in the area of the Eastern Mediterranean.
