During the course of 2000, the European Commission's Enterprise Directorate-General will launch an open call for tenders for studies in the field of innovation. They will cover some or all of the following domains: - the creation and development of innovative firms - lessons from selected European areas of excellence; - innovation policy in a creative and global economy; - innovation policy issues in seven accession countries: Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta and Turkey; - product innovation and employment - review of current trends and perspectives for policy action; - the power of customers to drive innovation - review of selected cases in Europe and the USA, and covering the challenges to enhance innovation in an enterprise policy; - interrelationships between market concentration and innovation in enterprises - review of selected European and USA experiences; - patent application and licensing income in firms and research centres - review of selected experiences fostering innovation. The total estimated expenditure will be 1,300,000 euro, and it is expected that award procedures will begin in July 2000.
