Tender opportunities at the Enterprise Directorate-General

The Enterprise Directorate-General has announced that it will shortly be seeking tenders for services that cover conformity and standardisation.

Award procedures will begin before the end of August 2000, for the following:

- informatics services - the creation of a database of notified bodies to be published on the Internet (Council Decision 93/465/CEE). 250,000 euro;

- administrative co-ordination of notified bodies to ensure the functioning of the conformity evaluation structures in the framework of the directive. 'new approach'. 400,000 euro;

- maintenance and updating of a web site in order to ensure the functioning of the conformity evaluation structures. 250,000 euro;

- study on the benchmarking of European normalisation bodies (Council Decision 28.10.1999). 50,000 euro;

- study on the impact of normalisation on the market. 400,000 euro;

- study on the cost and efficiency of European and international normalisation. 50,000 euro;

- study on the most relevant factors for the competitiveness of engineering firms - the first step towards a possible benchmark exercise on the sector. 300,000 euro;

- reinforcing the internal market - administration of the 89/336/EC Directive: technical secretariat of competent and notified bodies' electro-magnetic compatibility. 90,000 euro;

- study on heavy off-road machinery: cost benefit analysis of a new directive on these matters to assess the economic, social and legal impact. 80,000 euro;

- study on EMC Directive: cost benefit analysis of the possible amendments in this Directive implied by the conclusions of the SLIM exercise. 80,000 euro;

- study in the context of facing the major challenges of globalisation, to perform an assessment of the competitiveness situation of the EU electrical household appliances sub-sector. 100,000 euro;

- study in the context of facing the major challenges of globalisation, to perform an assessment of the competitiveness situation of the EU R&TTE sector. 120,000 euro;

- technical assistance to audit the work done by the certification bodies in the framework of mutual recognition agreements ('confidence building'). 60,000 euro;

- internal market: expertise on the implementation of the directives (in particular judgement on the substance of the safeguard clause). 50,000 euro;

- internal market: evaluation and improvement of the legal database, which was implemented in the medical sector to monitor the market. 100,000 euro;

- maintenance and update of a web site relating to pressurised equipment. 50,000 euro;

- maintenance and update of a database relating to medical devices. 50,000 euro;

- assistance to ensure the existence of an administrative co-ordination of notified bodies in the construction sector. 65,000 euro;

- assistance in co-ordinating certification bodies to ensure common procedures for the evaluation of conformity. 55,000 euro;

- study focusing on state-of-the-art fire safety engineering while also evaluating the potential added value to the competitiveness of the construction industry through co-ordination at European level. (The need for research actions would also be considered in the study). 100,000 euro;

- study on the creation of an evaluation system focusing on economically most advantageous tenders in public procurement procedures for the construction industry, and which would allow to take into account qualitative aspects, as well as the lowest price. 100,000 euro;

- study on the impact of mutual recognition agreements implementation. 115,000 euro;

- administrative co-ordination of notified bodies to ensure the functioning of the conformity evaluation structures in the framework of the directive 'new approach'. 200,000 euro;

- study on financing the European normalisation. 50,000 euro;

- gathering of data and facts related to mutual recognition agreements to present them to industry in the context of a seminar. 50,000 euro;

- study to provide useful information, related to personal protective equipment, on economic factors and perception of the European manufacturers in the context of reinforcing the internal market. 80,000 euro;

- study on the evaluation of the 'acquis' in some candidate countries in the framework of enlargement challenges. 100,000 euro;

- study to describe the state of functioning of the internal market in the mechanical sectors, in particular in the machinery Directive, in the context of reinforcement of the internal market. 100,000 euro;

- control of the application of directives by Member States (safeguards clauses) - reinforcing the internal market. 50,000 euro;

- introduction of IT technology in the construction sector. 150,000 euro.
