INTAS announces calls for proposals

INTAS, the International association for the promotion of cooperation with scientists from the new independent states of the former Soviet Union, has launched its 2000 and 2001 calls for proposals for joint research projects and networks. The total budget for these projects is 30 million euro.

Eligibility for the proposals depends on tenderers' ability to include at least two different INTAS members and two different NIS (newly independent states). Projects should have a duration of between two and three years and maximum funding varies per project from 60,000 to 150,000 euro.

The budget has been divided along the following lines:

- INTAS open call 2000 - budget: 13 million euro
Joint research projects and networks related to astrophysics, astronomy, nuclear and particle physics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering sciences, aeronautics and space, economics, social and human sciences.

INTAS open call 2001 - budget: 13 million euro
Joint research projects and networks related to condensed matter, plasma, radio and material physics, optics and quantum electronics, life sciences and earth sciences.

INTAS food call 2000 - budget 1.5 million euro
Joint research projects related to all aspects of the food chain from production to consumption.

INTAS information call 2000 - budget 1.5 million euro
Joint research projects dedicated to the use, accessibility, processing, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information across all scientific disciplines.

INTAS-CERN call 2000 - budget 1 million euro
Joint research projects related to specific aspects of the physics and engineering of the large Hadron collider detectors.

Some 13,324 teams have already worked on INTAS projects so far. A spokesperson for INTAS said that it is looking forward to further breakthrough results from the calls, particularly in the projects with socio-economic potential, life sciences and IT.
