A Correspondence Centre forming part of the extensive network of Euro Info Centres will open in the Israel Export Institute, Tel Aviv, during November 1993. The Centre will be the first to be established in the Middle-East.

Correspondence Centres are elements of the Euro Info Centre (EIC) network located outside the European Community. Some 220 Euro Info Centres operate throughout the Member States, plus an increasing number of Correspondence Centres particularly in EFTA countries and in Eastern and Central Europe.

Providing local or regional access to European Community information, EICs form part of the Commission's business information and cooperation networks. These comprise the Euro Info Centres and Correspondence Centres themselves, plus the Business Cooperation Network (BC-NET) and the Business Cooperation Centre (BRE, Bureau de Rapprochement des Enterprises). A range of services is available at each Centre, as well as access to key information sources, including CORDIS, the Community RTD Information Service.

BC-NET, the Business Cooperation Network, is a computerized network of some 600 consultants in the public and private sectors across Europe and worldwide. Particularly targeted to aid businesses wishing to find partners in Europe, BC-NET is experienced in giving support at all stages of a particular project: assessment, partner search, initial contact, follow-up, etc.

Among other activities, the EICs provide a sub-network specializing in matters relating to research and innovation. This offers a range of support to companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, assisting in the dissemination of research results and the search for suitable partners for participation in Community-funded RTD projects.

It is considered that the Tel Aviv Correspondence Centre will act as a catalyst in economic relations between the EEC and Israel and will also significantly advance relations between the Community and the Mediterranean region.
