Following the April 1993 call for proposals (Official Journal No C 67 of 10.3.1993) issued in the context of ESPRIT, the specific research and technological development programme in the field of information technologies (1990-1994), a total of 202 projects were selected for funding from the 1,277 proposals received. The overall target budget for Community funding in this call was ECU 387 million. Contract negotiations are now complete for half of the projects, and these are expected to begin implementation during December 1993 or January 1994. Full details including title, description and contact persons will be available shortly. In the case of ESPRIT's April 1993 call for proposals concerning the European Systems and Software Initiative (ESSI) accompanying measure (OJ No C 114 of 24.4.1993): after assessment, 102 new projects were accepted from over 980 proposals. The total Community budget for these projects amounts to ECU 30 million. At present, some 75% of the contracts negotiated have been finalized and several of the projects will start before the end of 1993.
