The European Investment Bank (EIB), along with the French development agency (AFD) is to lend 76 million euro to Guadeloupe. Information technology (IT) in the region is expected to be one of the main beneficiaries of the loan. The loan will be used to contribute to the region's enterprise development fund, which supports small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in what are considered to be key sectors. These include emerging and growth sectors such as IT and agribusiness, as well as health, regional development and tourism. The overriding objective of the loan is to trigger a powerful development dynamic in Guadeloupe, a French overseas department, which will boost employment in sectors that will generate local value added.
