The European Commission has approved State aid in France for the multiannual research programme "Ultra-clean factories in the food industry". The programme supports basic industrial research to improve the design of factories and manufacturing processes in order to limit microbial contamination with a view to greater food safety for consumers. The programme involves the financing of basic industrial research projects, not including applied research. State financial support is permitted to a maximum of 50% of the project cost under three aid schemes: The research and technology fund; improvement of the conditions in which agricultural and fishery products are stored, processed and marketed; and large innovative projects undertaken by the Ministry of Industry.
